Cannes Film Festival 2010

Cannes film festival opens: Preview, list of movies, celebrities.

THE SIXTY third Cannes Film Festival unfolds on Wednesday, May 12 and goes on till May 23, 2010. More than four hundred companies from nearly hundred countries are participating in the Cannes Film Festival this year.

This year, the opening film is Ridley Scotts’s Robin Hood starring Russel Crowe. The closing film is Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Placed Out of Competition is Woody Allen’s You will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger. And the president of the Jury is American film maker Tim Burton.

The Indian film Udaan brings hope for India at the world festival. All those involved with the film will be present at Cannes, the director with his newcomer lead actor Rajat Barmecha, its producers Sanjay Singh and Anurag Kashyap, Ronnie Screwvala of UTV, the production house that backed the film.

The nine member feature film jury headed by Tim Burton of the Batman and Alice in Wonderland fame also includes Shekhar Kapoor. Atom Egoyan of Canada heads the five-member short film jury. Mrinal Sen wil be honoured in Cannes Classics.
This year the festival entirely depends on the weather conditions. Ash from the volcano in Iceland is still creating havoc with flights from northern Europe. Last week a thirty foot wave reportedly battered the Cannes coastline and caused significant damage to automobiles and ocean front businesses.
